Hauz Khas, a slum colony in South Delhi, is also known for its notorious red light area near me. Though the area has been declared out of control by the police, it continues to function. This area is home to at least 1,000 sex workers and several brothels.
Even though the government is trying to rehabilitate this colony, it is still continuing. Due to the unwanted publicity that Bawdi Katar received from across the country about two years ago, the situation is always being monitored. One report states that “a national newspaper of India made a report in 1994 that 25% of Delhi’s prostitutes lived in the area of Bawdi Katar.” This adds to its notoriety.
In Bawdi Qatar’s famous red light area, which is number one in India, almost 50% of women work in prostitution. Most of them are educated women from rich families who choose this profession for financial gain instead of getting married. The other areas are Bawadi Katar in Hauz Khas, Sangam Vihar, and Shivdas Puri red light areas.
GB Road Red Light Area
Sangam Vihar Red Light Area, also known as the GB Road of Delhi, is a commercial district and red light area in south Delhi, India. It has become an infamous district in recent times because of the many rape cases that have taken place there. The brothels are run by pimps who lure young girls with promises of jobs and money and then force them into prostitution.
It was established in 1978 by the Government of Delhi as part of a slum redevelopment project to relocate people living near the banks of the Yamuna River that were prone to flooding.
